1. PAS 63100 site survey and DNO notification
Before any hardware is ordered or delivered, a registered installer surveys the property. They check whether the consumer unit has a spare way for the new Libbi circuit, confirm the earthing arrangement, and assess whether any existing solar wiring needs adapting if DC coupling is planned.
DNO notification is submitted under G98 (for most domestic systems up to 3.68 kW AC export per phase) or G99 (for larger systems or where the DNO has additional requirements). Myenergi's inverter can be export-limited during commissioning, which keeps most single-phase domestic installations within G98 territory.
2. Choose locations for the battery and inverter
The Libbi unit is wall-mounted indoors. A garage, utility room, or plant room works well, provided ambient temperatures stay within the unit's operating range and there is enough clearance for the connections. Proximity to the consumer unit is important to keep the AC cable run short and voltage drop within limits set in BS 7671.
A myenergi hub connects the Libbi, Zappi, and Eddi together over a short wireless link. The hub is typically mounted close to the Libbi so all devices can communicate reliably.
3. Mount the battery and inverter
The Libbi mounting bracket is fixed to the wall and the unit hangs from it. Myenergi specifies clearances above and to each side for airflow, and these must be respected. The bracket needs to go into studs or masonry rather than plasterboard alone, as the unit is heavy when fully populated with battery modules.
Myenergi Libbi is available in 5 kWh and 10 kWh configurations. The 10 kWh version stacks two battery modules. The installer fits both modules before closing the unit and moving on to the wiring stage.
4. Connect the solar DC cables
Where solar panels are already fitted, the DC cables run from the array to the Libbi's MPPT input. The installer confirms polarity at the string before connecting. Cables are routed in the safe zones defined in BS 7671 (concealed behind chases, above ceilings, or within ceiling voids) or run in conduit where surface-routing is the only option.
If the property already has a grid-tied inverter, the installer assesses whether AC coupling (keeping the existing inverter and connecting the Libbi on the AC side) or DC coupling (connecting the panels directly to the Libbi's MPPT) is more appropriate. DC coupling is generally more efficient; the right choice depends on the existing equipment and the cable layout.
5. Wire the AC supply from the consumer unit
A new circuit runs from the consumer unit to the Libbi's AC terminals. The circuit is protected by an RCBO at the consumer unit, sized to Myenergi's specification for the model being installed. A double-pole isolator is typically fitted near the Libbi so it can be de-energised for maintenance without going back to the consumer unit.
This circuit is Part P notifiable. The electrician carries out the required dead and live tests (insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance) and issues a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate or Electrical Installation Certificate as part of the completion paperwork.
6. Fit the CT clamp
The current transformer clamp clips onto the meter tails or the appropriate cable at the consumer unit. It measures how much power is being imported from or exported to the grid at any given moment, allowing the Libbi to decide automatically when to charge from surplus solar and when to discharge to offset import.
One CT clamp serves the entire myenergi hub. If a Zappi charger or Eddi diverter is also fitted, it reads from the same clamp, so there is no need for additional metering hardware. CT clamp position matters: it goes on the live conductor between the meter and the consumer unit main switch.
7. Commission via the myenergi app
Commissioning is completed on the myenergi installer app. The process covers Wi-Fi pairing, verifying that the CT clamp is reading import and export correctly, setting the charge schedule, and configuring any tariff integration (Octopus Go, Agile, and Intelligent are natively supported). If a Zappi or Eddi is present, both devices are paired to the same hub at this stage.
The homeowner is shown how to monitor generation, battery state, and grid import in the app. Completion documents including the DNO notification confirmation and the electrical installation certificate are handed over before the installer leaves.
