1. Surveying the site and planning capacity
The Force H3X is an all-in-one unit. The installer reviews the solar array to confirm it is compatible with the Force H3X's DC input specification, checks the consumer unit for a spare MCB way for the new AC circuit, and inspects the proposed mounting wall for adequate strength and clearance. The combined weight of the inverter and battery modules requires secure fixings into masonry or a timber frame of sufficient strength.
The installer sizes the battery capacity against the household's daily consumption and solar generation profile. Starting capacity can be expanded later by adding battery modules, so the initial choice does not have to cover every future load, but the wall space for potential expansion should be confirmed early.
2. Mounting the Force H3X unit
The Force H3X comes with a wall bracket. The installer marks the fixing positions, drills into masonry or appropriate substrate, fits the bracket and checks it is level before hanging the unit. Two people are needed for the lift. Once the unit is secure, the cable entries at the bottom are identified and the conduit or cable management route to the solar array and consumer unit is planned.
3. Connecting the solar DC inputs
Solar panel strings connect to the Force H3X via its built-in MPPT inputs. Each string is terminated at the DC isolator provided and then connected into the inverter's MPPT connectors. Open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current are measured for each string before the DC isolator is closed, to confirm the string is behaving correctly and within the inverter's input limits.
The installer verifies that no string exceeds the Force H3X's maximum input voltage, particularly in cold weather conditions when open-circuit voltage rises above the standard test condition value.
4. Running the AC supply cable to the consumer unit
The Force H3X's AC output connects to the consumer unit via a dedicated circuit. Cable cross-section is chosen for the inverter's rated output current and the cable run length, keeping volt drop within BS 7671 Regulation 525 limits. An RCBO or MCB at the consumer unit protects the circuit. The installer carries out polarity checks, earth continuity, insulation resistance and loop impedance tests before closing the board and updating the circuit schedule.
5. Fitting the CT clamp
A CT clamp fits around the grid import conductor, giving the Force H3X a live reading of how much power the house is drawing from or returning to the grid. The inverter uses this to decide whether to charge the battery from surplus solar, discharge it to cut import, or export. An incorrectly oriented CT clamp inverts the signal, so the unit charges from the grid in daytime and exports when it should be storing. The installer confirms the reading makes sense against a known load before proceeding.
6. Commissioning on the PylonHome app and notifying Part P and DNO
With all connections made and dead tests completed, the installer powers up the Force H3X and steps through the commissioning sequence. The PylonHome app is used to set the operating mode, energy tariff schedule and backup settings. A test charge and discharge confirms the system responds correctly to the CT clamp reading.
The installation is notified through the installer's Part P competent person scheme and you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate. DNO notification follows G98 for exports up to 3.68 kW per phase, notified within 28 days. Systems larger than this need G99 pre-approval before work starts. Keep both documents with your property records.
